ABOUT OUR PROGRAM

From the date our show first went live, we’ve operated by one simple principle: to bring you the very best Celtic music we could find, from wherever it originates.  Our program is not an Irish music show as such; while we certainly do play a lot of Irish music, we also showcase artists from Scotland, Cape Breton and Canada, the US, Brittany, the Isle of Man, Cornwall, Spain, Scandinavia and, of course, right here in town.

Every month, we showcase a particular artist, instrument or subgenre on our Theme Third Sunday program.  Past examples have included shows devoted to Jerry Holland, Turlough O’Carolan and music from the outer reaches of the Celtic world.  We also bring you the very best new releases in our New to You segment, older tunes you might not have thought about in a while as our Closet Classic, and music from Central Indiana during our Local Focus.

The name of our show is directly related to our intention to make the show a Celtic listening party.  Whether the Irish ceili, the Scottish ceilidh or the Nova Scotia kitchen party, Celtic music has a long tradition of being played during social gatherings in kitchens and front rooms, often with the furniture pushed against the wall, that feature music, dancing, storytelling and good times in general.

To listen to the show, simply tune in to WICR FM 88.7 in Indianapolis, or stream live at www.wicronline.org.  Podcasts for all our past shows are available in six places: at iTunes, Google Play Music, TuneIn, Soundcloud, www.mandodave.com, or elsewhere on this site.
